Guidance w/ Mrs. Lanham

The Elementary School Guidance program is designed to meet the needs of all students, grades K-5.  Mrs. Lanham, Counselor, visits each classroom for Guidance Lessons 12 times throughout the school year. Short term Small Group Counseling sessions are conducted on specific topics.  Individual counseling is available at the request of the student, teacher, or parent to enable children to perform to the best of their abilities in the classroom setting.

Bully Prevention Program
Our school's Bully Prevention Program consists of classroom guidance lessons on each grade level that focus on preventing behaviors that lead to bullying here at our school.  Students learn skills to help them deal with any name-calling and teasing that may occur, and learn that these behaviors are innappropriate and cause children to lose friends.  Children learn to tell the difference between minor teasing and situations that are truly bullying--such as threats, hitting, or repeated incidents.  We are proud that our school has a low number of incidents of bullying each school year.
This school year, we are presenting a school-wide play called the "Bully Plan".  This play teaches students that "Everyone Belongs," and offers ways that bullies can stop their behavior, victims may become more assertive, and bystanders learn skills to squelch a bullying situation.
Classroom Guidance, Grades 1 and K
Classroom Guidance lessons are continuing through the month of October for grades K and 1.  Each classroom will receive an hour long guidance lesson each week, for a total of 6 lessons.  Kindergarten lessons will focus on Feelings, Likes and Dislikes, and Adjusting to Kindergarten.  First grade lessons include topics such as Friendship, Study Habits, and Positive Attitude.
